Choose your base

Choose your base

Make a shortlist by station

Planning suggestion: compare Seomyeon for trips across the city, Haeundae for a beach-focused stay, and Nampo for the older city center. These are editorial starting points, not hotel quality rankings.

Pin the hotel, arrival station and your three main destinations on one map. Compare actual transfers and the walk from the station; a hotel marketed as “near the beach” may not be near the metro.

Airport arrival

Arriving at Gimhae Airport

Take the light rail, then transfer

Follow signs to Airport Station on the Busan–Gimhae Light Rail. Transfer at Sasang for Metro Line 2, or Daejeo for Line 3. Choose the transfer using your hotel’s exact map pin, rather than following another passenger.

Save your Korean hotel address and nearest station exit before leaving airport Wi-Fi. Check the final connecting train as well as the light rail if arriving late.

Airport bus or taxi?

Compare the last leg, not just the airport ride

The city announced a reorganized airport limousine network effective 5 January 2026. Check the current route against your hotel before choosing a bus; an older travel blog may show superseded stops.

For a taxi, show the Korean address and map pin. Check the vehicle size for your party and luggage before boarding. Current bus stops, fares and departure times belong to the operator, not a fixed timetable in this guide.

Transport cards

Transport cards

Use local fare rules

Busan’s buses and metro accept transportation cards. Use the current operator guidance to check whether your particular card or pass covers the journey. Do not assume a Seoul-specific pass works here.

Keep transport balance separate from any payment-card balance. Check your balance before a long day. Follow local reader instructions when boarding, leaving and transferring; airport rail and other modes can have separate fare conditions.

Plan your day

Do not cross the city all day

Build a route by area

Planning suggestion: group nearby visits and check every leg in a route planner before booking timed activities. A beach, a market and a hilltop stop may look close on a country map but require transfers.

For a beach day, check the route to the actual beach entrance. For an evening visit, save the return route and last connection before leaving. Route durations depend on your exact origin, destination and departure time.

Arriving by intercity train

Separate your rail ticket from local travel

Busan’s city transport network includes metro, light rail and the Donghae Line. Your intercity train journey and your onward city trip are separate planning steps.

After choosing the arrival station on your ticket, map the journey to your hotel. Do not buy a local pass until you know which services you will use.

Korean phrases to copy

Show the place name or your hotel’s Korean address alongside the phrase.

이 주소로 가 주세요.

Please take me to this address.

Keep a trip copy

This saves a dated copy. Maps and bookings still need a connection.
