Maps, airport transport, payment cards and taxis — practical steps for your first days in Seoul.

YOUR FIRST THREE STEPS

Start here

1. Save your hotel’s Korean address

Open NAVER Maps, switch to English, and find your accommodation. Check that the map pin matches the booking address.

  1. Save the place and note the nearest station exit.
  2. Keep the Korean address in your phone notes.
  3. Before leaving Wi-Fi, capture your route and destination. Screenshots are a backup, not live navigation.

2. Separate shop payments from transit

A foreign bank card can pay at many shops, but it is not a standard Seoul subway or bus tap-in card. Get a transit card or a suitable ticket before reaching the gates.

For a standard physical Tmoney top-up at a convenience store or station, bring Korean cash. Do not assume that buying a train ticket by foreign card also means you can top up Tmoney with that card.

3. Set up a taxi app before you need it

k.ride supports overseas-card registration and Google or Apple sign-in. Uber Taxi also works through the Uber app.

  1. Enter your hotel as a test destination.
  2. Confirm your pickup pin and the correct side of the road.
  3. Check the selected vehicle, estimated fare and any booking charge before requesting.
FROM ARRIVALS TO YOUR HOTEL

Plan the whole airport journey

Before buying an airport train ticket

At Incheon, follow Airport Railroad signs to the transportation center on B1. Decide whether your destination suits the Express service or the stopping service; check the actual stops before paying.

  1. Confirm whether your flight arrives at T1 or T2.
  2. Route to your hotel’s exact address, not just “Seoul”. Include the final transfer or walk.
  3. Check the next departure and last service after allowing for immigration and baggage.
  4. Buy the correct ticket or prepare a supported transport card. A foreign bank card is not a gate tap-in card.

Choose for your luggage and arrival time

Our planning advice: compare the complete journey, including transfers and the walk from the station. The fastest train does not necessarily mean the easiest hotel transfer.

For a late arrival or bulky bags, compare airport bus stops and a licensed taxi with the rail route. Check service availability before committing.

CHOOSE BY YOUR ITINERARY

Three cards, different jobs

You do not need all three. These are editorial use cases, not a claim that one card is cheapest for everyone.

Tmoney · Pay as you travel

Our starting choice for flexible itineraries: use stored value rather than buying a timed pass.

Buy and reload a physical card at participating convenience stores. Keep the card after your trip; the plastic card and the stored travel value are separate costs.

At the reader: tap when boarding and getting off a bus, and at subway entry and exit. Have enough balance for your journey.

Climate Card · Short-term pass

Standard pass prices: 1 day ₩5,000 · 2 days ₩8,000 · 3 days ₩10,000 · 5 days ₩15,000 · 7 days ₩20,000. A new physical card costs an additional ₩3,000.

  1. Buy a physical card, then load the short-term pass at a supported station machine.
  2. New Seoul Metro Lines 1–8 machines support international cards for short-term passes.
  3. Load it on the first day you intend to travel: validity starts that day, not at your first tap.

WOWPASS · Shopping + transit

Two balances on one card: the shopping balance and the Tmoney transportation balance are separate. Adding shopping credit does not automatically fund your next subway ride.

  1. Use the WOWPASS app to check each balance.
  2. Insert the card’s IC chip to pay at a shop.
  3. Tap the transportation reader for subway or bus travel.
