Arrive by rail or bus, choose your coastal area and keep the journey home as simple as the day out.
Official pages reviewed · Manual review
Official sources manually reviewed on this date. Published fares and admission hours are a dated reference. Check operators for your train, local route, temporary detours and return connection.
Planning suggestion: compare a station/town base for arrival convenience, Gyeongpo for a lake-and-beach plan, Anmok for coffee by the sea, or Jumunjin for a northern-coast visit. These are itinerary choices, not hotel recommendations or quality rankings.
Pin your accommodation and two priority places before booking. Compare the actual route at your likely arrival time. For a short visit, choose one coastal area and one other stop rather than treating every beach as part of one continuous walk.
Use KORAIL’s English booking service to check trains to 강릉 (Gangneung) on your date. Select the departure station, arrival station and time shown on the ticket; do not assume a timetable from an older travel article still applies.
Before arrival, save the Korean hotel address and check the station-to-hotel bus or taxi leg. For your return, save 강릉역 and the booked departure time. Leave time to reach the station and find the platform after your beach visit.
The terminal and the railway station are different
Gangneung’s official English bus site links intercity-bus and rail information separately. Use the arrival terminal printed on your booking as the start of your local journey. Do not route a taxi to Gangneung Station when your return ticket leaves from a bus terminal.
Save the terminal name in Korean and your departure bay information. Compare the onward route to your hotel in the official bus search or a map app. If the trip involves a transfer, check the final connection before choosing it with luggage.
At review, the city’s fare page lists ordinary adult buses at KRW 1,530 by card or KRW 1,700 cash, and seated services at KRW 2,160 by card or KRW 2,400 cash. Tmoney is among the listed prepaid cards. These are published local-bus fares, not intercity-ticket prices.
The city lists up to two eligible transfers within one hour after alighting, excluding the same route number. Tap the card when getting off, keep sufficient balance and confirm your connection is covered. Cash payment does not receive the listed free-transfer benefit. Using one card per traveler simplifies tracking.
Korea Tourism Organization describes Anmok Beach and the coffee street along its beachfront. Search 안목해변, then save the specific cafe or meeting point you intend to use. A cafe name, the beach and the nearby port are not interchangeable drop-off points.
Planning suggestion: leave the cafe visit flexible around the weather and your arrival time. Check opening hours with the chosen business and save the return stop or taxi pickup point before walking away from the arrival area.
The official Gyeongpo park description groups Gyeongpodae Pavilion, Gyeongpo Lake and Gyeongpo Beach in the same area. They are different map pins. Tell your driver or route planner whether you want 경포대, 경포호 or 경포해변.
Planning suggestion: pick a starting point and an ending point before beginning a walk. Check the distance, surface and return connection for your party. A hotel with “Gyeongpo” in its description may still require a walk or local ride to the beach entrance you want.
Korea Tourism Organization identifies Jumunjin Breakwater as a filming location for “Guardian: The Lonely and Great God.” Search 주문진 방사제 and compare the official place pin with the spot you want; do not substitute a general Jumunjin town or beach pin.
Planning suggestion: treat the northern-coast journey as its own outing. Check outward and return transport before leaving the town center. Follow any local access restrictions and keep a flexible alternative if the chosen photo spot is closed or crowded.
The museum’s published guide lists entry 09:00–17:00 and viewing 09:00–18:00. Individual admission is KRW 3,000 for adults, KRW 2,000 for youths/military and KRW 1,000 for children. On 1 January, Seollal and Chuseok it says only Ojukheon opens, with indoor exhibition rooms closed.
Check current notices and your eligibility category before visiting. Do not plan an indoor-museum fallback solely from the phrase “open year-round.” Save 오죽헌 as your destination and allow enough time before 17:00 for the journey and ticketing.
The official tourism listing places Jeongdongjin Beach beside Jeongdongjin Station. If this seaside stop is your goal, search 정동진해변 and 정동진역 separately from 강릉역. A train ending at Gangneung does not by itself establish a stop at Jeongdongjin.
Planning suggestion: check the exact train or bus service for both directions before adding this to a day trip. Save the departure station on your booked return ticket. Sunrise plans also need a confirmed early journey or a nearby overnight stay.
The official English bus site provides a notice feed, timetables and real-time search. Its October 2026 feed includes festival-related detour information, showing why a saved route needs a travel-day check. A listed timetable is not a live bus-arrival guarantee.
Before leaving Wi-Fi, check your route, direction, temporary stops and the last return journey. Save the Korean stop name and hotel address. If a notice is unclear, ask your accommodation or a visitor desk to help interpret that particular route notice.
